Breathe Deep

I always like to send a message
            by trial and error
               by fire and shatter
                  gunshot silenced
                                 & brain pierced

I don’t give a fuck what you think
                                                  [of me]
but I do give a fuck what you think
                                                  [Indeed]

                         Do you remember when I
told you to hold the line
                            Do you remember how I
                                 said to hold fast?

There may have never been time for that
                  & certainty shows
                              in simplicity
                   [s]words like death
                          life, love, pain, poor,
                                 rich, hate, decay

                                      Freedom carries
                                            responsibility we
                                  instinctively know/ but
if we’re not used to it
did we ever really own it?

Maybe this is why we are all here
                                        to wave the past on

                           We’re making more sense
                                          every day of

        T h e           L o   n   g           C  o  n

  1. Insightful poem 🙂

    My prognosis:

    1. “certainty shows in simplicity
    [s]words like death”

Love the clarity in these lines .. The protagonist is certainly not BS-ing here.
Simplicity in words conveys the most clear message and brings certainty in what has to be established as part of that conversion. I really the way you are correlating “sword” and “word” here(like the word play 😉 ); it’s like the swift swing of the “Katana” and you have two pieces. Clean and Precise! We have an expression in hindi “एक मार दो टुकड़ा “/”Ek maar do tukda” means “One hit and two pieces”, that is to clarity and precision.

    2. “Freedom carries responsibility we
    instinctively know/ but
if we’re not used to it
did we ever really own it?”

Most of the people are not aware of this fact that “Discipline is the precursor for freedom” (Dr Jordan Peterson). Freedom is mistaken for chaos or anarchy or the child’s freedom example free to poop in your pant. To have true freedom, you need to take up the responsibility of the disciplining yourself. To work out consistently, repetitively till you convert the “potential” into a tangible skill/ability. And after attaining that ability you are free. “Know the truth and truth will set you free”. There is a price to be paid to know the truth, to possess the skill, to reach a level… After you pay the price, you are free..!

    3. ” Maybe this is why we are all here
    to wave the past on

    We’re making more sense
    every day of

    T h e L o n g C o n”

So it’s a process, step by step, we will achieve the true “Freedom”. Everyday understanding game of life “The long con”. Life is the con artist here, and we together are in this game. No short cuts, no perfect fix, life changes everyday and throws new tricks and cons at us and we need to deal by constantly learning and acting accordingly.

    PS:
You poems have layers to them. It took me some time and attempts to get all the level (according to me).
“My prognosis” is my humble effort to understand your lovely poems and not an attempt to judge or score them. By doing this I am learning from your work. Thank you for sharing and bearing with long comments. 🙏🙏🙏
